Conditions + Treatments
In early January of 2019, I was getting up from the rug with my kiddos (I teach 2nd grade.) I got up awkwardly and heard a pop. Initially, this wasn’t unusual because I cheered and danced up until college so I was remotely used to hearing pops! Over the next couple of months, I would have random days that hurt more than usual but I didn’t think much about it.
Fast forward to August 2019, I had just gotten married and was having consistent pain in my right hip. My husband encouraged me to get it checked out because all activity had come to a screaming halt and I was in constant pain.
I went to an orthopedic doctor in Pelham, we tried all measures of recovery until we both finally realized things were not getting better. She referred me to get an MRI to confirm what she thought was the issue. After getting the MRI, I had a confirmed labral tear and she encouraged me to go see Dr. Benton Emblom.
During my first visit to Andrews Sports Medicine, I was super nervous at what the outcome would be. I was a perfectly healthy, 24-year-old who was about to have hip surgery. When I met Dr. Emblom, he introduced himself by his first name and immediately reassured me that we were going to get this taken care of. He made me feel so confident that I would be back to normal in no time!
I had my surgery June 10, 2020. While I am aware that I still have a long recovery ahead of me, the pain is COMPLETELY gone. At a little over 6 weeks, I was walking 1-2 miles a day with my dogs, swimming at the lake and attending way too many weddings to count!
I am still working hard at physical therapy to gain strength to go back to school! I was fully expecting to be on crutches for 6 weeks (according to Google LOL) My physical therapist reminded me that the doctors at Andrews are NOT like other doctors! They are simply the best and know how far to push their patients!
Thank you Dr. Emblom for all you have done and continue to do! You are one of a kind!
