Conditions + Treatments
Coming from the small town of Hanceville, AL, I’ve always been an active guy, going to the gym three days a week, playing golf, and going to Alabama Crimson Tide football games.
I’m a lifelong Alabama fan, but after a while those half-mile walks to Bryant-Denny Stadium, in addition to all the stairs, became very painful in my hip area. I also couldn’t play golf at the level I used to play.
In the spring of 2016, a friend strongly recommended I see Dr. James Flanagan at Andrews Sports Medicine. During my initial appointment with Dr. Flanagan and his physician assistant, Eve, I could immediately tell they genuinely cared for me and for what I was going through. I was so impressed with their bedside manner and the way that they treated my pain.
On April 27, 2016, Dr. Flanagan replaced my right hip utilizing the anterior approach. Seeing and having Dr. Flanagan perform my surgery was one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life. I no longer have pain and am able to be active again like I used to be.
My wife and I have always loved to dance together. A few months ago, we attended my best friend’s daughter’s wedding in Little Rock, Ark. We danced at a wedding for 3 hours! It kind of reminded me of my old fraternity days!
Playing golf is still a work in progress, but I can actually use my right hip which helps my whole swing.
There are so many things that I’m able to do now that I wasn’t able to do before like part-time contracting, which requires some physical effort. I’m even keeping up with my 9 year-old grandson with sports and when we walk around in the mall!
I’m so happy to be back to my dancing self after years of pain. Now, I could go on all day. Surgery was truly life changing.
