Conditions + Treatments
After 40 years of wear and tear, my left knee decided to give me problems that I could no longer temporarily resolve. One day I heard it pop and it became swollen. The usual "stay off it for a few days" did not help. The inflammation was not going away. It was so bad that I could not walk on it.
My wife works at Andrews Sports Medicine, so it was the first place I knew to make an appointment. My initial appointment was with Dr. Charles Carnel. He drained the fluid off my knee, ordered an MRI, and then called me to going over the MRI. My knee did feel much better, but it only temporarily helped.
Dr. Carnel informed me that I would need to see an orthopaedic surgeon, and referred me to Dr. Benton Emblom in the same group of physicians. Dr. Emblom reviewed my MRI and the results revealed some stuff floating around my knee as well as some old tears and a little arthritis.
Dr. Emblom recommended scoping my knee to clean it. He explained that my diagnosis was a left knee synotivitis. We decided to schedule the outpatient surgery procedure.
Since my surgery, I have been amazed at the improvement in my knee. In less than 24 hours after my procedure, I went from using crutches to being able to bear weight on my left knee. I realize that a knee replacement may be my next step in the future. However, I am grateful that I do not experience the pain that I felt before the procedure.
I really appreciate the excellent care I received from Dr. Emblom and his team. I can now get back to doing the things I love which include building homes as a licensed homebuilder and spending time with family at sporting events and family gatherings.
Lastly, my wife constantly talks about the privilege of working at Andrews Sports Medicine. As a first-time patient of the practice, I am thankful I got first-hand experience of the amazing care and efficiency, while reaching victory over my injury!
